G'day:
[takes a deep breath]. OK, I'm going to try to not be all feisty in at least this article.
Kai Koenig has put a lot of effort into seeking clarification about the .lucee thing, how it should be approach from both LAS's and the community's perspective, and seeking some clarification from LAS as to how they see the development of .lucee as a going concern. The general thrust is one about transparency on the part of LAS, and to encourage them to adopt a more inclusive approach to how they conduct the .lucee side of their work.
It's worth reading if you're interested in .lucee (to any degree), and there's already some feedback from Geoff.
Here it is: "The (Missing) Lucee Language spec".
Kai maintains an over-all neutral- to positive-tone, which is an asset. And something I personally struggle to do on these topics. Good work Kai.
He's asked for some input / follow-up from the community in a couple of areas, so it'd be really good if community members could do so.
Me? No, I'm going to leave this thread alone. I think everyone knows my opinion on the points he raises. FWIW, there's nothing I disagree with in what Kai says, and he really has put it forward thoroughly and clearly.
Go have a read.
Cheers.

Regarding codes of conduct and the nature of forum participation
G'day:
There's been discussion about a Code of Conduct for the Lucee Google Group. Well without having the bottle to actually describe it as such... indeed going so far as to suggest that isn't what this thread was floating: "Tone and community guidelines".
Despite knowing full-well that some of the points are directed at least partially (or possibly entirely) at me, I think it's an appropriate idea. Sorta.
That said, I'd like to have a look at a coupla issues that came up in that list of bullet points, from comments on the thread, and in general.

Waitangi Day again
G'day:
It's Waitangi Day again,(in NZ, anyhow... it's still the day before here in the UK) so here's some fluff about New Zealand.
This is a Kiwi:
So is this:
And this:
And so - apparently - is this:
Although I'm not so sure about that last one.

CFCamp: Quick unicode regex code snippet
G'day:
A question just came up in Kai's "Regular Expression Clinic" at CFCamp about unicode support in regular expressions. This is important in countries like Germany where they have a lot of non-ASCII characters in regular use in everyday words, eg: letters with umlauts above them ("ö"), or double-S characters ("ß"), etc. I didn't quite know the answer, so I had a look and came up with some code...

Reaction to / plug for recent 2DDU podcast
G'day:
This isn't some attempt at a controversial reaction to something someone else in the community has said, it's just that the 2DDU podcast blog is a bit exclusive in that it requires a Facebook login to comment. And I do not have a Facebook account.

What CFML IDE do you use?
G'day:
This article / question was prompted by a few things. I've been using CF Builder since before it was first released (one of the benefits of bring on the Pre-release Programme), but have had a mixed experience with it, so I'm always questioning its merits, and listening to what other people have to say about it.
