Getting WURFL to work with CFML

G'day:
This is a bit of an insight-free article (more so than usual, I mean), as I did this work ages ago so cannot recall the minutiae of the hassle it gave me, other than recalling there was some. A community member has - coincidentally - asked about the same exercise, so I'm gonna reproduce it here.

So exactly what does Adobe's ColdFusion 'Extended Support' get you?

G'day:
This comment from Anit was fairly astonishing:

"Career" sit. rep.

G'day:
Just for you who choose to follow along this pythonesque flying circus that is my working life... now I am back to being a PHP developer again.

The stint back in CFML-land was briefer than I expected.

I'm still suffering from complete writer's block / motivation block, so I'd not necessarily expect anything interesting (/at all) from this blog for the time being. As always though... if anything interesting crops up, I'll jot it down. It's just that nothing interesting is cropping up @ the moment.

Righto.

More info on Lucee 5

G'day:
The Lucee Association seems to have jumped on its comms recently, with Andrew working on the Lucee blog, and Micha has also now created a page on the wiki page detailing some stuff on what's coming in Lucee 5.

A lot of this stuff is what was being thrown around for Railo 5, which should come as no surprise. But this does mean that back in the Railo days Gert has taken us through it all. Still: it's worth repeating because unlike Railo 5... Lucee 5 will be with us (at least in alpha/beta) in a coupla weeks. And I expect it to be released at dev.objective().

Ad: "UK or Ireland Based Remote ColdFusion Developer"

G'day:
I'm just circulating this for a community member, Rowan Brewer:

UK or Ireland Based Remote ColdFusion Developer

As a developer at Tutuka you’ll be building enterprise-level high scalability systems that process tens of millions of transactions and tying them to web, mobile and API interfaces that make it easy for people to issue prepaid cards all over the world. We already have a team of amazing ColdFusion developers that work out of our local offices in South Africa as well as remotely out of Ireland and the UK, and now we need you! What you will be doing [etc, check out the link]
Good luck if you apply for it, and Rowan, I hope this helps you fill the post. Lemme know!

28 (-ish) Days Later

G'day:
Very quickly, I just got some mostly-official word from the Lucee Association about where the hell Lucee 5 has got to. Well I say "I", but Andrew was answering to the Lucee mailing list on Google:

A public beta will be available within the next 2 to 4 weeks.

Andrew is a "Special Member". I mean of the Lucee Association. So, anyway, he's speaking officially. Oh (I'm updating this on Mon 16/3/2015), it's also mentioned on Lucee's new official blog: "Welcome and Lucee 5".

Anyway, two things to say on that:
  • About bloody time. How long have we been waiting for this? Obviously all the Railo / Lucee shenanigans got in the way of a more expedient release.
  • Cool!
I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on it. It should revitalise this blog, for one thing.

Anyway, that's that. I've got coffee to hunt down, breakfast to eat and rugby to go watch. Oh and the beer, let's not forget about the beer.

Hotel California

G'day:
Yeah, told you I was gonna be quiet for a while.

Anyway, something topical... I'm back to doing CFML again for the time being. My forays into PHP have been parked. But only for a coupla weeks.

I dunno whether to laugh or... cackle maniacally.

So yeah. I'm back.

That's it: no more ColdFusion_12 or CFClient

G'day:
You might or might not have twigged that I was running the @CFClient and @coldfusion_12 Twitter accounts. They were parody / pisstake / satirical account gently prodding the general business approach of the Adobe ColdFusion Team.

Well, anyway, someone filed an official complaint about them, so Twitter has closed them both down.

CFML: data connection objects instead of data sources

G'day:
A thread on the Lucee forums got me thinking about this: "Messaging Service Concept for Lucee.next". That in itself is an excellent idea, but my mind went off on a tangent whilst I was forming an opinion on it.
